Basic Arts Instruction in Full Swing at UPA

By Any Dreams Necessary’s 2011 Artist in Residence has been busy facilitating basic arts lessons for the students at Urban Promise Academy over the last couple of weeks.

6th graders have been learning about primary, secondary and tertiary colors and experimenting with mixing colors to make their own color wheels. Meanwhile, 7th and 8th graders have been focusing on the grayscale and learning to shade.

Basic Arts instruction is one of three components of the BADN arts integration model implemented at Urban Promise Academy. In addition to basic arts instruction for the students, the Artist in Residence also partners with teachers to integrate the arts across different subject curricula, and provides professional development for teachers about how they might better use arts in their classroom in general.
