The Educator
As a teaching artist, “Mr. Octavio” is dynamic, engaging and imaginative, inspiring his students to believe and trust full heartedly in their creative process. For 8 years he has been a champion of arts education and child advocacy, teaching an innovative arts curriculum in the after-school programs at Malcolm X Arts and Academic Magnet Elementary School in South Berkeley, ASA Academy in Oakland. Octavio is also the founder and director of Maestro Octavio’s Young Artist Summer Day Camp. Octavio teaches and reaches the young aspiring artists of the next generation with a profound love and respect for his approach of the creative process, and explores the arts as a powerful tool in co-creating young, intelligent, articulate, multi-lingual, mindful revolutionaries who are the visionaries and builders of the beautiful just future we so desire and deserve to live in.

The Artist
Octavio is a revered painter who sees his works of art as his most valiant attempts at decolonizing the mind while affirming the spirit and healing nature of his creative process. His aesthetic aspirations are revolutionary, challenging age-old notions with every brush stroke, and drawing fine lines that question and out-right break down the values of cultural hegemony.
